So here I am documenting my quest to run my first 5k. I have a running partner, Sarah, who doesn't get to train with me, but we are both using C25K to track our progress. I started last night. It was cold running outdoors. I think the temp was about 29 F. I had on plenty of clothes but I had to weat real running shoes vs my Vibram Five Fingers (www.vibramfivefingers.com). Today my legs are killing me! I had a hard time and missed out on the last couple of "run" segments. I am blaming the shoes. I have not had that hard of a time on W1D1 in the past. So now I am thinking I need to use a treadmill until it warms up enough for the Five Fingers.
Sarah and I have chosen our first race: Race for the Cure, Indianapolis, April 17. This give us both plenty of time to complete C25K.
I am also wanting to use the Chi Running techniques. My cousin, Terri, turned me on to it. The website is: www.chirunning.com
I would like to take a quick moment to thank my friend Cali for encouraging my newest quest. She has been a huge influence in this decision. Thanks Cali!
I am also going to track my weight loss and progress on this blog. I have taken before pics but I won't be posting them until I have after pictures to make myself feel better! Let's just say I cried when I saw them! In addtion to running I plan to start a weight program as well. Jerry and I are considering joining Anytime Fitness (www.anytimefitness.com).
I am going to brutally honest with my self on this blog. I have hit a weight of 159 lbs. I am hoping to get down in the 130s as quickly and as healthy as possible.

I am so, so, so proud of you! I definitely look forward to tracking your progress on this blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat I can tell you is that it's so worth it. I do a lot of outdoor running and since I live in the frozen north, I too am looking forward to nicer weather, but I figure I'll do what I can while I can.
I went bathing suit shopping today. For the first time in years it didn't make me cry. although I still have some toning up to do before I make an appearance in public on a beach, I can honestly say that I see a huge difference in my body. And that's exciting.
Keep up the good work. Love you tons, babe! Happy Running!
Hey running buddy! Day one is down and now to the next. Remember, it will keep getting easier once our bodies get used to it! Just think, it has to be hard or everyone would do it. I think you should start a list of good running songs. A good song will keep me going..well at least for 2 minutes!
ReplyDeleteHey Re! I found your blog through Cali's. How exciting for you! I was starting to run in our indoor track at the gym and was getting up to two laps (I am not a runner, so this is big for me) Then I started to notice that I could only do one lap before wanting to fall over, a few days later I found the problem -pregnant! I was sad because I had lost my Avery weight and was getting serious about losing the last ten pounds from Grace. Hopefully I can keep the weight down with this one, and get back a little faster.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your progress. This is something you won't regret. Good luck friend!
Love,
Riss
